    Abstract
The objective of this study was to explore and describe the unmarried mature Tswana woman's marriage perspective in order to create guide-lines for marriage preparation to these women. The motivation for the choice of subject, was inter alia the huge lack of native knowledge of social aid to black cultures in South Africa, which makes it difficult for Western social workers to offer culture congruent marriage preparation services. The results of the empirical study revealed the following : The unmarried mature Tswana woman of today experiences confusion to a large extent regarding her perspective on marriage. It appeared that the dominant point of departure is in favour of marriage, but that participators are prepared to rather avoid marriage closure because of certain "unpleasant" phenomena in the Tswana marriage. A number of phenomena were identified that appeared to influence the unmarried mature Tswana woman's marriage perspective, namely divorce, the bogadi custom, the stay-at-inlaws-custom and the Tswana woman's expectation of a spouse. The researcher identified 16 themes from the resource results that can be included in a marriage preparation programme to the unmarried mature Tswana woman, in order to increase it's culture congruency. Guide-lines for potential significant methods and resources that can be used in ·the presentation of some of the themes also were proposed briefly. It will also be possible to apply these proposed themes in the presentation of a marriage preparation programme to the unmarried mature Tswana woman, who is not yet involved in a relationship.
