Spirit-led preaching in collaboration with discipleship training programs in the South Korean Church context

Abstract

This thesis was designed to establish Spirit-led preaching in collaboration with discipleship training and to present its practical model in the South Korean church context. To this end, first of all, the study dealt with the correlation between the work of the Holy Spirit and preaching. It also dealt with the history of discipleship training and its influences as well as limitations in the South Korean church. This investigation has led to presenting three normative principles of Spirit-led preaching on the basis of the structural interrelationships of preaching: the biblical text, the preacher, and the hearers. The three normative principles are identified as the conviction of the revelation of truth, the recognition of the socio-historical situation, and communicative passion. For the theoretical ground of these normative principles, relevant biblical textual studies were also done. In addition, the core values and practical strategies of application were also studied in order for the three normative principles to be put into practice in the discipleship training. Then, with these theoretical results, this study analyzed the practical examples of Spirit-led preaching among the sermon texts delivered by Spurgeon and Morgan. Finally, the researcher tried out making a sample sermon of Spirit-led preaching on the basis of this theoretical and practical research background.
