dc.description.abstractNderitu (2017) defines an employee as an individual who performs work in an industry or organisation and receives payment in the form of a salary for their services and/or labour, while Heathfield (2020) describes an employer as an individual, industry, organisation, government entity, non-profit organisation, store, specialist services business or small business which hires or employs individuals for work or hire services. Nel, Kirsten, Swanepoel, Erasmus and Poisat (2014) state that employees basically sell their labour to the employing party to carry out certain tasks and are mostly represented by a trade union. Section 213 of the Labour Relations Act (LRA) 66 of 1995 describes an employee as any individual who works for another individual, or even for the state, and receives payment in return; and any individual that helps in administering the business of any employer.en_US
