The effects of climate change in developing areas : an assessment of the African situation
Abstract
This research is meant to assess the effects and incidence of climate change and indigenous
innovative measures in the developing African nations. The importance of the research are to
highlight the extent of influence of climate change impact in the developing countries; examine
the nature of climate change effect; determine the factors affecting the people’s adoption of
various adaptation strategies in the areas; identify problems faced as a result of the impacts of
climate change. Climate change does not only threaten in sustainable development of socioeconomic
activities but also the totality of human existence of any nation; hence the crisis of human
security. Data is gain to be drawn from both primary and secondary sources; using both
quantitative and qualitative approaches. Simple descriptive statistic is to be used for data analysis.
The study shows that there is increase in the effect of climate change in the places regarded as low
rainfall, desertification, higher and high temperature altitude. The findings also noted that the key
problems associated with climate change were; increase in the cost of living, farm input, and poor
crop yields, increase in pest and disease incidence and of forest resources.
