Metathesis in room temperature ionic liquids : a transformation of seed oil-derived olefins
Abstract
One of the most important areas of green chemistry is the application of environmentally
friendly solvents in catalysis and synthesis. Conventional organic solvents are a threat to the
environment due to their volatile, highly flammable, toxic or carcinogenic nature. The recently
emerged room temperature ionic liquids are promising candidates to replace volatile organic
solvents due to their interesting properties such as ease of reuse, non volatility and ability to
dissolve many kinds of organic and organometallic compounds.
