The aim of the research was to set guide-lines with regard to a theatre therapy programme for social workers with the view to prevent HIV/AIDS in adolescents. The goals formulated to reach the primary aim are as follows: * To establish the knowledge adolescents have regarding HIV/AIDS, as well as what exposure they have with regard to HIV/AIDS education. * To establish the role a theatre therapy programme plays in expanding the knowledge of adolescents regarding HIV/AIDS. * To establish which guide-lines can be given to social workers pertaining to theatre therapy programme with the view to prevent HIV/AIDS To reach these goals a literature study was undertaken, firstly, to establish whether any previous research had been done in this field. In the second instance it also was important to ascertain whether the study is justified and valid. Thirdly, it was important to study the research methods and procedures. The researcher utilised the survey and single system procedures in order to develop a theatre programme. Questionnaires were sent to high school scholars in Potchefstroom in the North West Province. Due to the results attained by means of the questionnaires, a theatre therapy programme was developed. A group of adolescents took part in the theatre therapy programme. The conclusion that can be drawn firstly, is that the knowledge adolescents regarding HIV/AIDS is limited. Secondly, attention will have to be given to current prevention programmes. Finally, it was established that theatre therapy does indeed expand the adolescents' knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS. Regarding their behaviour will only later become evident.
