Die onderwysstelsel in Swaziland na onafhanklikheid
Abstract
In this research the question was posed about what changes had taken place in the
Swaziland system of education since independance. To tie on to the realistic problems, it was decided to look at the educational structure in general. Linked to this, a historical perspective of the Swaziland system of education was given, so that the structure of education before independance could be determined. By means of this historical information it could be determined what changes had taken place after independance. To answer the posed problem, the education-related ideals of Swaziland as well as the influence that it had on the education policy were determined. Organisational structures, educational structures and supporting services were looked at in depth and the extent of success that could be seen in the development of these structures was indicated. To conclude with, a brief look was taken at those aspects which had an inhibiting effect on the system and whether the minimum prerequisites, as required by a system of education, had been met since obtaining independance. The conclusion made is that the education authorities in Swaziland were to a great extent able to let development take place in their system of education, despite some inhibiting factors.
