Sexual abuse of children is very high in South-Africa. It also seems that sexual abuse of children is not reported, especially in rural areas. The focus of this study was to look at the perceptions of role-players with regards to the procedures for reporting sexual abuse of children in a rural area. Alternative procedures were suggested which can be used in rural areas to encourage the reporting of sexual abuse of children. The qualitative research approach was used to describe the perceptions and experiences of role-players. Semi–structured interviews were conducted to reach the goals of the research. 15 Semi-structured interviews were conducted and the aim of the interview schedule was to focus on the perceptions and experiences of participants with regards to reporting procedures. The results was divided into sub-themes and indicated that alternative procedures for the reporting of sexual abuse is necessary in rural areas.en_US
