dc.description.abstract | In a religious context, the book of Psalms is often read in order to find some form of consolation and comfort in a situation of distress. This article uncovers a similar function, in an ancient context, for a number of individual psalms. It investigates the intertextual links between the book of Daniel, written during a period of crisis in the second century B.C.E., and a compendium of religious poetry available at that time. Several allusions to specific Psalms are found in Daniel 9. Furthermore, chapter 9 occupies a special place in the book of Daniel. | |
