The aims of this study are to determine what foundations exist for parent involvement at the schools, what the management tasks of principals with regard to parent involvement are and in what degree and to what extent do parents get involved at school activities. Liaison and collaboration between the primary educators (the parents) and the secondary educators (the teachers) are essential to raise balanced adults. Therefore it is essential for school principals to identify the fields of competence of the parents and the teachers and to elaborate liaisons on the different point of tangency of the partnership to the progress of the children. Parent involvement at school activities is founded on religious, historical, juridical and educational principles and on the fact that parent involvement at schools are a worldwide appearance. In South Africa non-statutory and statutory tie-statures exist where parents get the opportunity to get involved in the management of the school. Whilst managing schools, principals have to create opportunities for parents to get involved in the planning, organising, guidance and controlling of school activities to promote parent involvement. School principals have to plan, organise, control and guide parents to promote parent involvement. Hence healthy two way communication and positive interpersonal relationships are conditions for effective parent involvement. During the empirical investigation it was concluded that school principals have different ways in which they promote parent involvement and the degree of parent involvement differ from school to school.en_US
